For my research project, I did the standard of 40 surveys, 4 interviews, and 1 focus group. I found that gathering 40 surveys was the biggest challenge, so to overcome that challenge I had to create Facebook groups and be very persistent when asking my coworkers and friends to complete the survey. I also had to email classmates on Canvas to ask them for the remaining number of surveys that I needed. My research question was how and why people use Tinder, and through my data I found that it was mostly for entertainment purposes, but some data also supported that there was a connecting aspect for some people who actually wanted to initiate an intimate relationship. My hypothesis was that people use Tinder for entertainment rather than a potential intimate relationship, and there is a lot of data that I gathered that shows that Tinder is greatly used for entertainment, however data also shows that there is a percentage of people who use it with the intention of connecting with someone romantically. Overall, I think the research I gathered was supporting of my hypothesis, but I was surprised by some of the responses I received in my interviews and focus group that there are a lot of people who use Tinder as entertainment, but with the intention of connecting with someone and meeting them to see if there is potential for a romantic relationship.
