I used three methods to gather information, surveys, interviews, and a focus group. Uploaded surveys on survey monkey and got 56 responses. I had 4 successful interviews and a focus group of 6 people. Finding the right time and place was an obstacle for me so I overcame it by contacting multiple people and found the ones that work for me.
My research question that I proposed is "What role does social media play in how people consume/interact with sporting events such as the soccer world cup, Olympics, super bowl and other related events?" According to my data social media plays a huge role in delivering content to its fans and has a huge impact on the world of sports in general.
My hypothesis is the following, "People’s use of social media gives them the information they need to understand the events that occur prior to the event, during the event, and after the event." With the information I collected, my hypothesis is proven because people do in fact use their social media to keep up with the latest sports news especially with the evolution of smart phones that gives them 24/7 access.
In conclusion, my research has concluded that sports and social media is forever going to change and have a large impact on the way teams interact with their fans and vice versa. Data has shown that the convenience and ease of access has made social media a great alternative to viewing and following sports.
