Differences between men and women on social media
Research Question:
The Research question was: How do young adult (under 30) women and men define gender specific appropriate behavior on social media?
Hypothesis:
My hypothesis was that both young adult (under 30) women and men define appropriate behavior on social media for women more narrowly than for men.
Findings:
I found that behaviors on social media were more narrowly defined for women than for men. Women were less likely to post what they considered “sexy” pictures than men and had stricter standards of what they could post for the public. I also found that most people don’t like posting statuses, and usually just do pictures. As explained by many, pictures are mostly to show or promote events that are going on in their lives, except for snapchat, which can be used for anything. And men were less likely than women to post anything at all to social media as they use it mostly to keep up with friends they follow. I also found that more men admit to posting sexual pictures than women, and women think men should be allowed to show more skin, just as men think women should be allowed to show more skin.
Summary:
All in all, women do have more narrowly defined standards of what's appropriate than men, and they have to keep themselves more family friendly than men have to.
