College Students Attitudes on Digital Activism
To gain data I used three methods: online survey of 41 people, four interviews and one focus group with nine participants. All of the participants were either recent or current college students in the US that have at least one social media account. I chose this group because I wanted to know “What are US college student’s attitudes towards digital activism on social media?”. The data collected was very successful because there was a clear answer and intense consensus. I found that in my study across all methods and with the college students I selected; their general attitude towards digital activism was apathy. This goes on the prove my hypothesis that “most US college students have a passive attitude towards digital activism on social media. I guess that they see it and are informed and maybe they feel bad for a bit and then go and share something or like a page. I’m not sure if there is really much follow through or even if they enjoy seeing it on their feed.” The guilt aspect of my hypothesis was not tested fully but the remainder of the statement holds true. In those studied I found an overwhelming amount of casual apathy towards digital activism.
