My methods included a 7 questions survey, a focus group of 5 people, and 4 interviews. The survey was conducted via SJSU Qualtrics, and all of my participants in each of my methods were college students who used Facebook actively. My research question asked “How have college students used Facebook to enhance their college experience?” and my data showed that there are not one but several ways that Facebook enhanced their college experience. Facebook has allowed college students to form and maintain relationships near and far, to organize work and school matters, and to voice their opinions, views, and ideas to a massive audience. My hypothesis was that college students used Facebook as a tool for forming and maintain relationships throughout their college experience. My data collection told me that I was partially correct, college students still use Facebook for its social aspect, but it is very minimal, there are other ways that college students are using Facebook now. The social aspect has died down and progressed to more professional purposes. Majority of my participants stated that they filter a lot of what they post, if they were to post at all, and to make sure they do not offend anyone or attract negative attention. Facebook event pages, groups, and articles are the primary use for the social network these days. People are less inclined to share about their day to day thoughts and more inclined to spark discussion, relay information, and organize people and events together.
