Clarity In Instruction-2
It can be very easy to misunderstand things in the online world. Faculty may think that their instructions are clear, but some of the additional explanations provided in-person in an on-ground classroom can become lost in translation in the online environment.
For any of the instructional and/or assessment strategies employed in an online course, make sure the instructions that are provided with them are clear, direct, and to the point. Faculty should consider adding a video explanation Links to an external site. if talking out the details works better for them, and additional guidance like rubrics and examples are always helpful for students.
And if there is any possibility that a student may not understand something, make sure to encourage them to reach out to the faculty directly (and include information on how they can do that!).
The video below provides some additional guidance and strategies for including clear instructions in online courses.
