When beginning the journey to completing my MLIS at SJSU in the Fall Semester of 2016, I had no idea how many exciting avenues I would explore or how many interesting people I would meet. Preparation for completing this e-Portfolio began immediately that semester in INFO 203 when we were introduced to the Student Success Planner (SSP) and instructed in the use of this essential tool. While I wasn’t as conscientious as I could have been about maintaining the spreadsheet throughout the semesters, it was invaluable for managing my progress and keeping me mindful of which specific competencies were required for graduation. Throughout the semesters, I retained all assignments, discussions, exercises, and quizzes whenever possible. Additionally, I attempted to maintain consistent personal archiving protocols as a proactive measure, so that the process would be simplified when the time came to execute the e-Portfolio.
My e-Portfolio is presented in four sections: Introduction, Competencies, Conclusion, and Affirmation. The Competencies portion includes addresses Core Competencies A-H and J-N, each with an individual Statement of Competency that is supported with three pieces of evidence. Evidence was chosen based upon its accuracy in representing the required elements described in the e-Portfolio Statements of Competency Rubrics. Each Statement also includes a list of references.
The first step of constructing this e-Portfolio included reviewing the SSP and the Statements of Competency Rubrics. By comparing the two documents, it quickly became apparent that many classes outside of the SSP recommendations offered excellent opportunities to fulfill the required rubrics. Therefore, I subsequently reviewed all coursework to find the most satisfactory representations possible. In addition, to write my Statements of Competency, I reviewed course syllabi, assignment descriptions. Course recommended readings were also reviewed to provide context and supporting evidence that I had achieved the required levels of competency.
Reviewing everything that I have accomplished during my time at SJSU has been a gratifying experience, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to present my achievements in this e-Portfolio. I also cannot underestimate the appreciation I feel toward the incredible professors and faculty that provided such unfaltering support throughout my journey.
