Welcome to SJSU Online! We are your personal advising team. We coordinate with all the departments to provide you with a holistic advising and success experience.

Overview

During this orientation experience and beyond, our goal is to help you:

• • • Explore your personal online readiness and identify strategies for success such as setting goals, staying motivated, and managing your time

    • Discover the technology tools that you will likely need to navigate the online learning environment

    • Access the many support systems (academic and other) available to you here at SJSU

    • Review your degree requirements for graduation and prepare you for class registration

Troubleshooting

In an online course you will have an instructor and peers to offer support. For this tutorial, if you experience any issues with the modules, please email sarah.gordon@sjsu.edu.

Length and pacing

Exercises in this Canvas course are not grade bearing but are intended to enhance your experience. This course is self-paced and you can complete it at whatever days and times of week you’d like. It will take you about 3 hours to work through all the modules. You can do it in one sitting or log in and out until it is complete. Keep this course in your dashboard and come back to it as needed.

End of Module Knowledge Checks

At the end of each module you may complete a brief optional knowledge check (quiz). There is no time limit on these checks and you can take them as many times as needed.  Use them as an opportunity to reinforce your knowledge. 

Canvas Student Orientation self-paced course

All of you have access to another self-paced course that introduces you to all the features of Canvas: Canvas Student Orientation Course

Use this course as a resource for basic "how to" questions about Canvas.

Looking Ahead

Prior to orientation you will be assigned an Online Student Success Advisor who will contact you to schedule an appointment to discuss your academic goals and prepare a personalized success plan. Make note of any areas that you would like to discuss with your advisor. In the meantime, we will communicate with you through the announcements feature in Canvas and your SJSU email account. 

Ready to Begin?

You can view items in each of the modules by selecting them in the Modules navigation menu. Each module has the same three parts:

Overview and Learning Outcomes: Brief description of the topics covered in the module and what you can expect to learn from the module.

Modules: Detailed information about the topic with some interactive elements

Knowledge Check: Short optional quiz to see what you’ve learned

Select the "Start Here" button below and begin by filling out the Getting to Know You Survey so that we can begin to tailor your SJSU Online student success experience.
