The SJSU Writing Center offers many support resources that are available (for free) to all SJSU students. Check out all the details below.

Tutoring Appointments

You can schedule one-on-one or small-group tutoring sessions at the Writing Center whenever you need assistance with any piece of writing. We help students of all levels, from all disciplines, and during all phases of the writing process (from first thought to final draft). You can schedule tutoring appointments through our online scheduling system. Links to an external site. We offer both in-person and virtual/online appointments. You can book up to two 45-minute online sessions each week, and students registered with the AEC can request an additional (third) session per week by filling out our form to request additional tutoring time Links to an external site..

Drop-In Tutoring

During set hours of operation (as posted on the contact us Links to an external site. page of our website), we offer in-person drop-in tutoring--no appointment necessary. Drop-ins are shorter, 20-minute slots, and they are available at the Writing Center location in the MLK Library. During a drop-in, tutors are available to answer any quick questions you have about writing. They will still engage in a dialogue with you--similar to a regular tutoring appointment--but the time is much more limited. The scope of your question has to be narrow enough that a tutor can help you with it within the timeframe of about 15-20 minutes. If you want more extensive help, then the tutor will direct you to schedule a tutoring appointment.

Workshops

The Writing Center offers a full slate of one-hour workshops every semester on various writing topics--from "Common Grammar and Punctuation Errors" to "Body Paragraphs" to "Un-Blurring Plagiarism and Paraphrasing." These workshops are all facilitated via Zoom. Our offerings will always be posted on our workshop calendar Links to an external site., and you can register online.

Online Resources for Self-Study

You can use our videos Links to an external site. and handouts Links to an external site. any time for self-study as you are working on your writing. We have a playlist Links to an external site. on our YouTube channel of recorded versions of selected workshops, so you can still benefit from the workshop material even if you can't attend one of our live Zoom sessions.
