If you could not attend our Time Management Workshop, we wanted to provide you with a recap of everything you missed.

We have also included a link to the Time Management Workshop Presentation at the bottom of this message.

With this in mind, here are some specific techniques and strategies discussed in the Time Management Workshop:

1, TimeBoxing Links to an external site.

This technique is used by creating a visual weekly calendar where boxes of time are allotted for specific tasks.

Advisor Recommendations: Start by the due date of the task and work backward. Block out time for each step in a multistep task like writing a paper.

2. Pomodoro Technique Links to an external site.

Taking breaks Links to an external site. helps to recharge your brain and makes you more productive. The Pomodoro technique requires you to select a task, set a timer for 25 minutes, work on the task, take a 2-5 minute break, and repeat the cycle 4 times. After 4 sessions, you would take a longer break.

Advisor Recommendations: Use a visual timer where you can see time passing to keep you on track.

3. Kanban Links to an external site.

Kanban uses a visual board where you would move tasks from backlog to in progress and then to review. This technique helps to not overload you and can start and finish tasks one at a time. Work smarter and not harder.

Physical Kanban boards can be created on a whiteboard by listing items or using post-it notes to move tasks.

Free digital Kanban boards:  Trello Links to an external site., Google Workspace - Task Boards Links to an external site., MS Teams Links to an external site.

Advisor Recommendations: Use your SJSU Email and start to generate a task list. Download the Google Taskboard and these tasks will load into the board. This will keep all your tasks for school separate and organized.
