This exercise is designed to help you analyze the cost of your class. Thank you for taking a close look at the cost of your course materials.
For this exercise, pull up a syllabus for one of your recent courses. Then use the steps below to guide your reflection:
Step 1: Document
List or paste in all of your required and recommended materials and their costs in a post below. If you need to locate the textbook costs, please go to the Spartan Bookstore find course materials webpage Links to an external site. and look up the items by semester, department, course, and section:
Your subject librarian Links to an external site. can help you determine these costs if you like.
Step 2: Reflect
Think back on your experience as a student.
- What was the process of acquiring class materials when you were a student?
- Do you think your current students have similar or different experiences?
- Were you aware of the rise in textbook costs?
- Do you feel the cost of your course is reasonable?
- If you think your course materials are reasonable for your students, at what point would they be too expensive?
