Guidelines for Your Letter:
In addition reflecting on your own speech in detail, write a brief 300-word response to another’s speech (write this in the form of a letter). As you watch your partner’s recording, keep in mind the three resources that we have as speakers (conversational, performative, and written); then consider the following:
- Did the speaker appear to favor one resource over another? Which one? Describe.
- How did the above impact the goal of extemporaneous delivery?
- What recommendations or suggestions do you have to improve the extemporaneous delivery of this speaker?
- Name one or two strengths of this speech (this may be in relation to organization, delivery, etc.).
Also consider these elements:
- Did the speaker appear nervous? If so, what attributes (physical, vocal, etc.) made him/her appear to be nervous? How did it make you feel to observe a nervous speaker?
- Share any other observations you have about his speaker (strengths and/or areas of improvement).
Posting:
Post the letter to your partner in this discussion. He/she will read it here.
