Instructions

This in-class essay begins at 9:05am and concludes at 10:15am. Canvas will lock access to submission at exactly 10:15am. It will be best to click "submit" at 10:14am to ensure that you get your essay loaded into Canvas.

Do not open any other windows or tabs in your browser; do not open any other documents on your personal laptop during this exam. (Doing any of the above will result in a failing grade on this exam.)

No outside sources allowed. This exam is about you and your ability to write about a play using the dramatic conventions we have been studying for the past two weeks.

Be sure that the laptop you are using has enough power. To be sure that nothing happens due to wifi fluctuations, consider hard wiring to the floor outlets with a blue ethernet cable.

Though this is an in-class essay exam, the expectation for your writing includes:

  • effective structure of the entire essay
  • use of topic sentences and transitional statements within the paragraphs
  • use of quotes and MLA in-text citation style - since this is an excerpt, simply use (Ives) for your in-text citation
  • free from spelling errors
  • free from grammatical errors
  • free from punctuation errors

Leave about 10 minutes to read through your essay before you click submit.

Once you submit, you are free to leave. Please do so quietly so as not to disturb your colleagues.

Note: In the interest of time, there will be no definition/identification of dramatic conventions. Instead, use the formal terms for dramatic conventions in the writing of your essay to demonstrate your understanding of those terms.
